Congratulations to Jami Garson, our April Student Driver of the Month!
A student at Eastern Wyoming Community College, Jami is currently enrolled in the CDL program under the instruction of Ed Kimes, and she’s already demonstrating the determination
and strong work ethic that make her stand out.
Jami’s decision to pursue her CDL was inspired by both family and future opportunity. “My dad has a CDL and hauls hay and cattle, so I plan to help him with that,” she shares. “A CDL will also expand employment opportunities in the future. There are also new laws coming in dealing with one-ton pickups and weight restrictions that require a CDL to be able to drive.”
With a clear vision for her future, Jami plans to rodeo and transport hay and cattle. “I hope this program will make me a better driver and give me more options for the future,” she says.
Her instructor, Ed Kimes, shared:
“Jami has been looking forward to this program since last year when we first started it. She is an amazing student and very eager to learn—not just to get a CDL but because she’s very interested in learning the correct and professional side of trucking. She is the first girl that we have had in our high school program.”
Ed also shared exciting news about the growth of the program:
“We started last year offering a CDL program to the high schools in Goshen County School District and Platte County #2. We had 12 students last year and 11 this year. Next year, we will expand to four additional schools—two in Platte County #1 (Wheatland and Glendo, WY), one in Converse County #1 (Douglas, WY), and one in Converse County #2 (Glenrock, WY). By the end of this year, 23 high school seniors will have graduated with a CDL and the ability to begin working in a career.”
Eastern Wyoming Community College’s CDL program is proud to stand behind its mission: “Building Excellence and Professionalism in the Transportation Industry.”
We’re proud to recognize Jami Garson for her ambition, commitment, and passion for becoming a true professional in the trucking industry. She is a trailblazer and a strong example of what the future of trucking looks like!
