Simple Steps to Get Started
Here’s the correct order most students follow:
- You need to get your CLP. Study the CDL manual → access your state’s CDL manual here. Some schools offer CLP Prep Courses.
- Get DOT Physical & DOT Drug Screen → receive DOT Medical Card
- Take written test at DMV → receive CLP
- Enroll in CDL school (they’ll require your medical card) → find a school near you here https://tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Search
- Complete ELDT training
- Take CDL skills test
- Get your CDL!
