Celebrating December Student of the Month: Brooklyn Tucker

Toledo Public Schools – CDL A Program
Instructor: Jeffrey Cole

The Next Generation in Trucking Association is proud to recognize Brooklyn Tucker as our December Student of the Month! Brooklyn is an exceptional student in the Toledo Public Schools CDL A program, where she has demonstrated determination, maturity, and a genuine passion for a career behind the wheel.

A Childhood Experience That Sparked a Career

Brooklyn’s path toward trucking began years before she stepped into a training truck.
When she was just 10 or 11 years old, her cousin invited her on a ride-along in his truck — an experience that lit a spark she never forgot.

“That experience made a big impression on me… Watching trucker life videos later on showed me the freedom and adventure of life on the road. Ever since then, I’ve wanted that to be my future.”

Today, that early moment has grown into a focused career goal, and she’s thriving in a program designed to prepare students for real success in the industry.

Hands-On Learning That Builds Confidence

Brooklyn says her favorite part of the program is getting behind the wheel and practicing real-world driving situations.

“The hands-on experience — especially driving in traffic — has helped me build confidence and understand what it’s really like to be on the road.”

Her breakthrough moment came early in her training:

“The moment I realized I could really drive was huge for me. It made me excited about the idea of doing this for a living.”

She’s especially inspired by the independence, travel, and opportunities for growth that trucking offers.

Why Her Instructor Nominated Her

Brooklyn was nominated by Jeffrey Cole, who leads the Toledo Public Schools CDL A program — a rigorous, real-world training pathway that prepares students for in-demand careers.

The program includes:

  • Comprehensive theory instruction aligned with FMCSA ELDT and Ohio DPS standards
  • Extensive behind-the-wheel training focused on real traffic environments, safe maneuvering, hazard recognition, and decision-making
  • Progressive skill development using a blend of range practice and on-the-road scenarios
  • A strong emphasis on professionalism, safety culture, and job readiness

Mr. Cole says Brooklyn has risen to every challenge the program presents.

“Brooklyn demonstrated exceptional energy and passion for learning. She earned a 98/100 on her final theory test and quickly mastered turning, speed and space management, and hazard awareness. Her ability to apply these skills in real-world situations shows her commitment and potential.”

A Teacher’s Perspective on Gen Z in Trucking

With nearly a decade of CDL instruction experience — from community colleges to corporate training programs — Mr. Cole says teaching high school seniors brings unique opportunities.

“Most Gen Z students have never considered logistics, but once they start the program, their interest grows. They like hands-on learning and want careers that fit their lifestyle. It’s exciting to introduce them to an industry that offers stability, travel, and real growth.”

He notes that while high school students juggle more responsibilities, their curiosity and adaptability make them an exciting generation to train.

Looking Ahead

Brooklyn is the kind of student who represents the bright future of the trucking industry — motivated, capable, and eager to learn. Her dedication and impressive early accomplishments reflect both her own drive and the strength of the Toledo Public Schools CDL A program.

Congratulations, Brooklyn! 🎉
We are proud to honor you as our December Student of the Month.
