By Denise Williams | Channel Connection

This stretch of September from the 14th through the 21st  is sure to be filled with barbecues, giveaways, and additional fun activities as fleet owners, distributors, nonprofits, and other stakeholders celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. The decades-old tradition is an annual salute to those who spend their work hours behind the wheel.

While all employees — no matter their position or industry — deserve recognition for their service, the truck driving community stands out for its impact on every imaginable aspect of life.

For perspective, The National Transportation Institute (NTI) President and CEO Leah Shaver (pictured right) sums up truckers’ contribution to society in a single sentence. “Everything that we eat, that we touch, that we buy,” she told attendees of a recent NBMDA/NAFCD webinar, “is all available to us because a professional truck driver safely delivered.”
