For Charles, trucking offers exactly what he is looking for in a future career: good earning potential, opportunities to travel, and long-term stability. As a student in the Toledo Public Schools CDL program, he is already building the knowledge and skills that can help turn that interest into a career. Charles says one of his favorite parts of the program has been using the truck driving simulator, where he can practice driving skills, build confidence, and learn in a safe environment.
His instructor says Charles has stood out since entering the program because of his positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn. He regularly arrives early to class and spends extra time on the simulator to improve his skills. His commitment to his training and consistent engagement in class have also made him a strong example for the other students in the program.
Now in its third year, the Toledo Public Schools CDL program combines classroom theory with behind-the-wheel instruction to prepare students to be career-ready after high school. The instructor says students respond especially well when they can see a clear connection between what they are learning in the classroom and the career opportunities waiting for them. Hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to the transportation industry are helping students like Charles see trucking and logistics as careers they can build on for years to come.
Charles already sees those possibilities. He believes trucking can provide many different career paths and says the skills and experience he is gaining now can help him build a successful, long-term future.
