🌟 November Student of the Month Spotlight: Isaac Pickel

Parke Heritage High School – Rockville, Indiana

Parke Heritage High School is shaping the future of transportation one student at a time. Their CDL program, launched in January 2023 through an Enroll, Enlist, Employ grant, has quickly become a model for how rural schools can create meaningful, high-skill career pathways. What started with a single driving simulator has expanded into a robust training program that now includes two donated semi-trucks and trailers, hands-on instruction, and opportunities for students to earn their Class A CDL before graduation.
For instructor Mr. Rollings, the purpose behind the program is simple: connect education to opportunity.

“I wanted to build a program that opens doors for students—giving them real skills, valuable certifications, and a path beyond high school,” he shared.

This month, NGT is proud to recognize Isaac Pickel as the Student of the Month—a young man who embodies the values of commitment, leadership, and determination. Isaac made the bold decision to move into the district specifically to join the CDL program, demonstrating an uncommon level of initiative for a high school student. His hard work paid off this week when he officially earned his Class A CDL, a milestone he proudly achieved before Christmas.

Even after reaching this achievement, Isaac continues to support his peers—helping classmates practice pre-trip inspections, answering questions, and sharing strategies he has learned on the driving range. According to Mr. Rollings, “Isaac is the kind of student every teacher hopes to have—driven, humble, and always willing to help others succeed.”

Isaac’s dedication goes far beyond trucking. He is completing the Indiana College Core, earning 30 college credits while still in high school. He also takes advanced dual-credit courses, including Advanced English through Indiana University and Calculus through Ivy Tech. In the fall, Isaac will attend Taylor University, where he plans to further his education and play basketball.

Outside of school, Isaac’s roots run deep in agriculture. Working on his family farm sparked his early passion for trucking.

When asked about Gen Z, Mr. Rollings expressed genuine optimism:

“Gen Z wants purpose and hands-on learning. They’re willing to work hard for what matters. Isaac is a perfect example—academically driven, career-focused, and supportive of others. This generation is going to make a positive impact in trucking and every industry they enter.”Isaac’s story is a reminder of what’s possible when schools, communities, and industry partners come together to support young people.
He represents the future of trucking—hardworking, motivated, and ready to make a difference.
