🌟 March Student of the Month: Abigail Simpson

Toledo Public Schools | Truck Driver Training Program

Abigail’s passion for trucking started long before she entered the classroom. Growing up in a family connected to transportation, she learned early that the road represents freedom, independence, and opportunity. With an uncle who owns his own truck and a family that enjoys riding motorcycles together, Abigail says she was raised believing that the road feels like home. That sense of travel and adventure ultimately inspired her to pursue trucking as a career.

Since joining the CDL program at Toledo Public Schools, Abigail has quickly distinguished herself through preparation and dedication. Her favorite part of the program so far has been working on the driving simulator and completing hands-on pre-trip inspections, where classroom learning comes to life. Even in the early stages of training, she has embraced every opportunity to learn and engage.

What sets Abigail apart is her commitment before the program even began. She took the initiative to read the CDL manual in advance and created flashcards to study key concepts. This preparation helped her enter the program with confidence and stay ahead academically — an accomplishment she is especially proud of.

Abigail views trucking as a long-term career and looks forward to spending many years on the road, enjoying both the freedom and stability the industry provides. Her advice to future students is simple but powerful: plan ahead and come prepared. Reviewing the BMV handbook before starting the program can provide a strong foundation and make the transition into CDL training much smoother.

According to her instructor, Abigail exemplifies the dedication needed to succeed in today’s workforce. She arrived on day one fully prepared, having already studied course materials and completed flashcards for every “Check Your Knowledge” question. Her attentiveness and engagement in the classroom demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence.

The Toledo Public Schools CDL program was created to meet the growing demand for skilled drivers and provide students with direct pathways into high-demand careers. Students like Abigail represent exactly what the program was designed to achieve — motivated young professionals ready to step into essential roles within the transportation industry.

Congratulations to Abigail, our Next Generation in Trucking Student of the Month, for her hard work, preparation, and passion for the road.
